SunnyKen > The pace on this side of Maui is very leisurely. We had rushed our drive a bit, fearing that the trail ride would start without us if we were not there on time. Now, all the pressure had melted away. Keoni, co-owner of the land and horses and our head guide, prepared everyone for the ride in a very calm manner. All staff members spoke in their native Hawaiian language among each other, and before the ride asked their forefathers' blessing to enter the ancients' land safely with their visitors. It made us feel welcomed and comfortable.
SunnyKen > During our exploration of Kihei, we came across this gnarly old tree at Kalama Beach Park - probably a couple of hundred years old.

SunnyKen > Early on Wednesday morning, we started on the trail ride into Bryce Canyon. We were assigned our mules - Ken teamed up with Bluejay, while I rode Ruby. Both mules were young and relatively new to the trail - a fact that we did not know until afterwards (good thing, too...).
SunnyKen > In Desert View, near the East entrance to the Grand Canyon, we stopped to take a look at the Watchtower - one of several built by Mary Colter nearly a hundred years ago.
